Brigitte Buxtorf
Born in the German speaking part of Switzerland, Brigitte Buxtorf studied the flute at the Conservatoire de Genève and obtained, at the age of 17, the first prize for virtuosity, with distinction, in the class of A. Pépin. She perfected her skills with G. Crunelle and obtained the first prize at the Conservatoire de Paris. Pupil of J.P. Rampal, she then won third prize at the Concours International in Geneva and was for six years flute soloist at the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande. Since then, she has devoted her time to a brilliant career as a soloist, and to chamber music, notably with the harpist Chantal Mathieu and the guitarist Dagoberto Linhares.

Brigitte Buxtorf has produced many recordings for European radios and created works dedicated to her by many Swiss composers, including J.F. Zbinden and E. Gaudibert. She has unearthed a large number of original works for flute and harp from the 18th and 19th centuries.

She had the good fortune to know the composer A. Jolivet, meeting him for the first time in 1968 when she performed his "Concerto pour flûte et orchestre à cordes" in Paris. In 1971, under the direction of A. Jolivet, Brigitte Buxtorf interpreted the "Concerto pour flûte et percussion" in Geneva, and benefited from his advice for "Ascèses" for flute solo performed at the same concert.
